November 2016 - Vol. 2 - No. 5

Greetings one and all!!

October went fast! Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away, followed by everything Christmas. However, we must first celebrate and give thanks for all our blessings! So, I extend to each of you my gratitude for your continued support in my various vocations, and for taking the time to read each issue of “Theodore Talks”.

All things music and creative!

Another season of the St. Louis Renaissance Faire has come to a close. The shift to the fall was not without its challenges. However, the 2016 festival saw a great number of patrons enjoying the sights and sounds, food and drink, and wonderful entertainment. So, the crown has been shelved and the over-robe hung until next year.

The Greenleaf Singers are in the final weeks of preparations for our Christmas performances. If you happen to be in town the first two weekends in December, we’d love for you to join us for either the Eliot Chapel Annual Renaissance Madrigal Theatre and Christmas Rout (December 1-3, 2016) or for our Christmas Evening with the Greenleaf Singers (Friday, December 9th).

Not only is my remix of Scotland the Brave available on CDBaby, you can now find it on iTunes as well as Spotify (Just do a search for "Theodore Jander").

Living Life to the +Plus!

In honor of Thanksgiving, this month’s tip for taking one simple step to harmonious health is all about eating…

What is food fit for a king? Whole and unprocessed foods such as multiple servings of fruits and vegetables; whole grains; proteins such as red meats, chicken, TURKEY, fish, nuts and the like are what every person can eat for harmonious health.

Give Thanks!
How do you plan on giving thanks? If you are so inclined, consider using the following text, which has been used in hymnals around the world and in a choral setting by yours truly, as a prayer on Thanksgiving Day.

We plow the fields, and scatter the good seed on the land,
But it is fed and watered by God’s almighty hand;
He sends the snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain,
The breezes and the sunshine, and soft refreshing rain.

He only is the Maker of all things near and far;
He paints the wayside flower, he lights the evening star;
The winds and waves obey him, by him the birds are fed;
Much more to us, his children, he gives our daily bread.

We thank you, our creator, for all things bright and good,
The seed time and the harvest, our life, our health, and food;
No gifts have we to offer, for all Thy love imparts,
But that which Thou desirest, our humble, thankful hearts.

All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above,
We thank you, Lord, we thank you, Lord, for all your love.

(The text was written by Matthias Claudius, 1782 (Wir pflügen und wir streuen). Claudius first heard the words sung by local farmers. In 1861, Jane M. Campbell wrote a translation from the original German into English. The translation first appeared in A Garland of Songs, by Charles S. Bere, 1862.)
