Devotional Life!
Over the next few months I will be sharing with you an adaptation of an adaptation of devotional practices shared in the information bulletin at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. The suggestions are applicable to all types of situations and backgrounds.
Devotions - many of us have our favorite devotionals that we like to read. However, some may not have quite found successful ways to incorporate devotions into daily activities. Fortunately, there is more than one way to have devotions—or some quiet time with God. Plus, each person’s rituals and traditions will differ. That said, this is the first offering of alternative means to carry out devotions and finding that quiet time for meditation, prayer, etc.
Listen to sacred or Christian music - Great music can really help you focus on peace of mind and even more so on God and His word. So, queue up a great song and really listen to it. Focus on the words and pray as you listen or after the song is done. (And, for those of you who are patrons at the Café Latte level and up of my new project, Seasonal Scriptures in Song, you have brand, spankin’ new music to utilize and even sing as your meditation or as prayer.)
Watch an inspirational music video - Inspirational videos are great for when you are tired and still wanting to pray and calm your brain before nodding off to sleep. Jump onto YouTube and type in your favorite song title. A great number of slide shows have been compiled and created over the past many years. These videos add unique dimensions of meaning and expression to the words.
Journal - Journaling what you learn as you read Scripture or other inspirational materials can make all the difference. Just taking the time to write a few lines can add so much more meaning and impact.
